First off, stretch everyday to allow you to be flexible; if you can make your legs go wider it will appear as if you are going higher. Remember that a leap isn’t always about traveling far it’s about getting higher off the ground. So concentrate more on the prep before the jump and going high more than trying to go farther. Get as low as possible and use your arms if possible during the prep. Your arms in a preparation are very important but since you are in color guard I’m not sure how well you will be able to use your arms if you have to carry your flag. If you are preping with a chasse or some other kind of step make the steps big and powerful.

Answer #5

well, I don’t do colorguard, but I do dance. so, they are probably very similar. I have been working on the same thing for dance. to get my legs higher, I stretch a lot. here are some stretching ideas: -you could start out simple, by sitting down on a flat floor, putting your legs in front of you and pointing your toes and trying to reach to your toes. -then you could stay seated and just put your legs in a v and stretch to each side. -I’m not sure if you can do splits or not, but if you can then I would start doing some jump splits (but always stretch before you do those, cus you could pull a muscle) and if you can’t do splits, then maybe work on them, cus they can improve your leaps. (those are just some ideas, but to get more ideas, maybe check the internet or if you have on demand, you could do some workouts on there, too.)
