yoga.. "relaxing?"

people said that yoga is “relaxing,” but 2 days this week we did yoga in gym, and I didnt find it relaxing 1 bit. I mean holding your arms up for minutes at a time really hurts. why do people think it IS relaxing, or is it that im just not doing it the rite way probably…

Answer #1

Yoga, itself, is quite a workout - especially for those who are out of shape.

Once you reach a level of fitness, you’ll find that doing the Yoga helps you focus and concentrate on your breathing, which is relaxing.

However, the real benefits can be felt after the workout - you feel invigorated and peaceful.

Answer #2

it actually is depending on what you prefer to do… Maybe you lack of focus, that’s why it hurts… You have to really put yourself in to it, and focus..

anyway, maybe some other relaxing axtivity matches your mood.. : )

Answer #3

Any exercise is relaxing if you think about it. When you exercise you let go of your thoughts and only think of what you are currently doing therefore you forget about what you were stressing.

Answer #4

Get the breathing down…and THEN you’ll find the relaxation that they talk about…concentrate (visualize) the muscles as you work on them for “focus” - in your mind, picture the excess oxygen going to those muscles, giving them strength and length…

If you “hurt”, then don’t hold the position as long…everyday, lengthen the “count” you hold it…
