If “iterate” means “to say again,” isn’t “reiterate” a bit redundant?

Iterate means to say again, but reiterate means to say again excessively.

Yes, as ichibanarky explains, there is a difference in the way they’re used - when they’re used correctly.

You don’t feel there’s anything odd about saying ‘You keep saying that over and over again!’ do you? - well that’s what the word ‘reiterate’ does, in one single word.
