The last time I watched CNN I believe it was,I had a hard time understanding every big word they were saying,why do people always use such big words when they can say it nice and simple?

It just fits the context better, remember news papers and news stations serve ALL types of people (and no one will really complain if they are too professional, but some people might complain if they are too unprofessional), so the more professional, the more viewers they’ll get.
