still 30-40 lbs higher than I am used to being, why?

Hello, I am a recovering heroin addict. When I quit cold turkey, I put on 30 lbs in 2 months because my energy levels were so low and I ate to comfort my aching body. When I finally started to feel normal again, I got pregnant. I had my baby in feb. And am very happy to say I am drug-free. However, even though I am back to my “pre-pregnancy weight” it is still 30-40 lbs higher than I am used to being. I feel like when I diet and exercise, nothing happens. These pounds are stubbornly staying and I don’t know if there is anything I can do about it. Am I hopeless? How much time will it take of diligent dieting and exercise before I can lose weight? Ever? I am currently 5’3” and 145 lbs. I want to be a healthy weight of like, 120-115. Is it possible?

Simply a Rose to brighten your day,         And maybe lessen the cares in your way;         And also, too, to help you to know,         That in knowing you, many others grow!

You have a BMI of 25.68.

BMI is between 25 and 29.9 (Overweight)

Persons falling in this BMI range are considered overweight and would benefit from finding healthy ways to lower their weight, such as diet and exercise. Individuals who fall in this range are at increased risk for a variety of ilnesses. If your BMI is 27-29.99 your risk of health problems becomes higher. In a recent study an increased rate of blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease was recorded at 27.3 for women and 27.8 for men. It may be a good idea to check your Waist Circumference and compare it with the recommended limits.   bmi calculator:

18.5 or less Underweight
18.5 to 24.99 Normal Weight
25 to 29.99 Overweight
30 to 34.99 Obesity (Class 1)
35 to 39.99 Obesity (Class 2)
40 or greater Morbid Obesity

Normal for your height would be 104 to 126, so yes you could shoot for a goal of 115 to 120.   Normal Adult Height-Weight Range Table

Your BMI and weight are only a little over what you want, so just take your time and lose just a little at a time. If you try to take it off too fast you will see it come back fast plus you might not get the proper nutrients if you are breast feeding.

they say you should allow the same time it took to put it on to loose it in a healthy way.

perservere with your healthy regime, and remember, your body has changed, you’ve had a little baby…give it time to recover before exhausting it!

and very well done for the drug-free bit…you must be so proud!

Answer #3

well done for getting off the drugs :) just think to yourself, weighing 40lbs more is a lot better and healthier than being on drugs, allow yourself for treats, cause eating a lot has got to be better than the drugs, sorry im rambling, just try to think positive.

Answer #4

First off I just want to say, Good job for getting of drugs!!!

Ok, do you weigh yourself often? If so, try only weighing yourself once a week. if you do it too often it is not going to seem like you are loosing anything. But, just keep doing what you are doing and if you are eating right and working out you WILL loose weight. Just be paitent! Congrats to you again for quiting and having a little baby! :)
