How to stop self harming?

I self harm, so badly that I bleed. I do it on both arms and on my thighs. Please don’t tell me off, please don’t ask why, just please can I have advice on how to stop? I tried loads of different methods, my sister (who used to self harm but has stopped) advised to draw on my wall, but that just made my parents really angry. The learning mentor at my school said to draw on paper, but that didnt work. Just please, some advice? x

I used to harm myself as well and I also know how addicting it can bebit everytime when I would have the urge to do it, I would tell myself that it only took care of the problem for a few minutes and that wasn’t worth the week of having to hide the marks and wonder when I was going to stop.

I don’t know if you have many like goood friends or no but try hangin out wit them more or doing a sport or joining a club just like do soemthign to get your mind off of it to keep you busy

I used to do it too. When I thought about cutting, I thought about all the people I would be hurting by cutting myself. Once I got caught with cuts all over my wrists and many of my friends were upset and even cried over it. So now I just think about what I would be doing to them by hurting myself and that stops me.

So when you think of cutting, think of your family, friends and people who really care about you and how much it would hurt them to know you cut yourself.

I used to self-harm, too, and I know how addictive it can be. I stopped by both solving the problems that caused me to want to hurt myself, and by thinking about it rationally. Self-harm is addictive because it distracts you. For a moment, you have a pain to focus on other than your emotional pain. In addition to working toward correcting or dealing with the things that cause you emotional pain, find a productive distraction.

When you’re feeling depressed, bake a cake, go for a run, paint your toenails, or learn a new skill.
