I don't know this person very well, but he told me he's self harming, and the reason why he's self harming because of just stupid stuff people have said to him that's really mean and that he's not what everybody thinks he is and he hates putting an act on, there is no way I'm going to tell anyone, but is there a way I could try and counsel him myself or something and try to help him?
It's good that he felt comfortable enough telling you about this despite the fact that you don't know each other very well. For now, try and just be there for him. It would be cool if you guys could spend more time together by getting to know each other and having fun. That would distract him from his bad thoughts. If things get worse, you need to tell a trusted adult because cutting is obviously serious. It would be better if he got mad at you for telling someone than for him to potentially get seriously hurt, you know?
From experience, esp since your not that close to him, your prob not going to be able to get him to stop, sometimes those things happen (self harm) from rooted things inside of him that he's going through. I would say he would need to go to a therapist, or if something great like a girlfriend came along in his life, she could prob get him to stop. But if there not doing it for attention and it's something really big going on with him and has been he won't stop until something significantly happens to him.
Ensure it does not stay hidden....consequences far too severe....make sure a competent adult or organization is aware so they can help....
