Do you think children's services should be able to take a child away from you because they are overweight?

Answer #1

No, of course not. There are a million factors that contribute to someone being overweight, it’s not JUST the parents fault.

I do think, though, that it is the parents responsibility to teach the child healthy eating habits and if that isn’t being done then yes, I think they should be able to take a child away. But after you teach them healthy eating habits, there’s not much more that you can do. And anyways, just let kids be kids. Everything will work out, and as long as they’re not severely obese, being overweight isn’t the end of the world by any means.

Answer #2

I just seen on the news a boy was takein from his parents for bein overweight, he is in 3rd grade and weighs 200lbs

Answer #3

That’s disgusting and cruel. As long as the parents weren’t physically forcing food down his throat, it’s not exactly their fault. I agree that some of it is, but even so that doesn’t require them to TAKE AWAY THEIR CHILD. There were better ways of dealing with that. I do agree that, that was unhealthy, though. It’s hard, because I’m a fatactivist and there’s a fine, almost invisible line between being fatphobic and literally being afraid for someone’s health. Sometimes they intertwine, and that makes things hard…

Answer #4

No that’s stupid unless they weigh over 500 pounds then yes but if they are just 20 pounds over weight then it’s stupid because alot of kids are over weight these days an its because of their metabolism usually

Answer #5

That’s a pretty slippery slope. Many children are overweight through no fault of their own or their parents, but a child who is so overweight that it’s causing health problems and is preventable (g, not a hereditary problem) shows clear signs of negligence.

Answer #6

How much overweight? Is it the parent’s fault?

Answer #7

I am with Colleen. There are alot of factors that contribute to obesity, but as a parent it is your job to recognize this and seek meidcal treatment. Even kids with thyroid problems can be healthy with the proper diet and exercise. Feeding a kid unhealthy food when he or she has obesity issues is the same as buying alcohol for an alcoholic. You are feeding the problem.

Answer #8

Everything in moderation. Just because a child is overweight, that doesn’t mean that they should be restricted from ever having junk food. That’ll just lead to them binge eating.
