What if following the Body Mass Index makes me feel too heavy?

I’m 15 years old and am very close to 5’8 and I keep wondering wether I’m a healthy weight or not. The Body mass index I feel I cannot follow because it tells me im underweight because yeah… I weight 106 pounds! BUT shouldnt I take into consideration that I naturally have very tiny but very long bones? I mean.. from my heel to the top of my knee cap is almost 50cm and at the widest part around its 32cm and the thinnest its 19 cm. (right by ankle) around just under my bust is 66cm because quiet frankly i have a short torso… and adding that all together if I gain weight I feel weighed down. Its like my long bones cannot support much more weight! HELP!

Hi,

Well, you’re right. According to a BMI calculator, you’re about 15-20lbs underweight. However, if you are truly eating healthy meals and hearty portions and simply are a fine-boned person, you may be healthy although underweight. I wouldn’t worry so much about the numbers as HOW you feel. If you feel healthy at your weight, then don’t force-feed yourself to reach an ideal number.

hope that helps.

Your BMI is 16.17 Body fat % = 17.5

The ideal body fat % is 21%

So you are about 14 % UNDER the ideal.

Your bone structure does play a part. Your Baseline weight according to your height is 140lbs.

You can tell what your bone structure is by measuring the circumference of your wrist.

Small Frame: 14.6cm - subtract 5 - 10 lbs Medium Frame: 15.9cm - Baseline Large Frame: 16.5cm - Add 5 - 10 lbs

At the very least you’re still about 20 lbs underweight.
