Why are my quads sore?

This week I’ve been doing some really intense workouts (because I want to lose weight). I took a break on wednesday then continued the next day. Yesterday i went hiking with my family and i forgot to stretch after that. I thought it was nothing so this afternoon we went hiking again and this time i combined it with running (i haven’t ran since february i think). I did some stretches after that and now my quads are kinda sore but not as bad as they were yesterday. Am i ‘over training’ or is it because I haven’t ran in so long? My shoes are also worn out and I plan to buy new ones soon. Do you think i should rest tomorrow or do some light/ moderate cardio? And just in case you’re wondering, i’ve been jump roping & hiking regularly for a couple of months now so it can’t be that i’m not used to exercise.

I think it’s possible that your quads are hurting because of everything combined. When you start a new exercise routine you’re putting more of a strain on your body, which is isn’t quite used to. You may be used to rope jumping and hiking, but if you haven’t done the other stuff, your body still needs time to adjust.

Are you over training? I can’t tell you that for sure. If you have achy muscles, though, a little rest couldn’t hurt.
