Jesus real jew or more

Was jesus real if so was he a jew

Answer #1

The only records we have of Jesus are so filled with obvious fantasy, that it’s fair to conclude the writers didn’t actually know anything about him either. So, he might be mythical (pure fantasy like Scooby Doo) or he might be legendary (a historical core turned into fantasy like Santa).

Answer #2

Jesus was a real historical figure. Christians believe that Jesus fulfilled the Jewish prophecies that foretold the coming of the Messiah. He was ethnically a Jew, certainly.

Answer #3

“As a matter of fact, there is more historical evidence for the existence of Jesus of Nazareth, written closer to the time he lived, than there is for Julius Caesar. “

Oh really? Please, point to a single document discussing Jesus that was authored within his lifetime, or a single document other than the bible that was authored shortly after.

In contrast, for Caesar, we have: “Much of Caesar’s life is known from his own Commentaries (Commentarii) on his military campaigns, and other contemporary sources such as the letters and speeches of his political rival Cicero, the historical writings of Sallust, and the poetry of Catullus. Many more details of his life are recorded by later historians, such as Appian, Suetonius, Plutarch, Cassius Dio and Strabo.” (from Wikipedia)

“Further, to assume that the miracles associated with him are “fantasy” begs the question of how a creator God would intervene in his creation.”

This is indeed called “begging the question”. You conclude that the bible must be accurate because… that’s how God would act? And how do you know how God would act?

“If you start from the materialist-determinist position that the universe is a dead thing, then, of course, none of this makes any sense to you…but then you would also have to believe that your conclusion is the result of the random collision of atoms in your skull and, so, is of no more significance than the croaking of a frog or the hiss of the remnant background radiation from the big bang.”

No I wouldn’t. Experience teaches me that I am able to reason sensibly about the world around me, and that those predictions are borne out by reality.

Answer #4

The bible is pretty clear that he was jewish. As toadaly points out, though, there’s no evidence he actually existed, so the question is kind of academic.

Answer #5

Answer #9

As a matter of fact, there is more historical evidence for the existence of Jesus of Nazareth, written closer to the time he lived, than there is for Julius Caesar. Further, to assume that the miracles associated with him are “fantasy” begs the question of how a creator God would intervene in his creation. If you start from the materialist-determinist position that the universe is a dead thing, then, of course, none of this makes any sense to you…but then you would also have to believe that your conclusion is the result of the random collision of atoms in your skull and, so, is of no more significance than the croaking of a frog or the hiss of the remnant background radiation from the big bang.
