How hard is it to be a Seafarer?

My parents are trying to make me household chores almost everyday. wash cloths, wash the dish, clean the floor and even tilt of dirt on a floor. sometimes Was the Garden by using a bucket of water. almost everything. They said there doing it because when Im onboard a ship,I’ll be ready for everything. anyways,is it true thats it really hard being a seafarer? because of all the hardest work you could think of is on board a ship. Specially if your still an apprentice. [I heard rumors that apprentice or cadets are doing all the dirty jobs onboard but Im not sure if it is true]

As with all careers, the low man on the flagpole gets the dirtiest jobs. Whether or not you’ll be “swabbing decks” is relative to the ship you are stationed on and the policies of that ship. However, as a sailor just starting out, you can be certain there will be chores - it’s your responsibility to keep things ship-shape (no pun intended).

No it is not a hard life as such.
. It is a great adventure to start with - seeing all the places that most people pay a fortune to go and visit. But after a while everywhere seems to be just “somewhere else” instead of home, and you realize how much you really love your own Country and your family, and the friends that you have left back home. . As to the “dirty jobs” - yes there are plenty of hard dirty jobs, and the Officer Cadets usually do more than their fair share compared to the Officers.
. But the “Crew” do most of the dirty / heavier “unskilled” and “semi-skilled” work, while the Cadets are only being given an insight into the range of difficulties involved in some of those jobs, so that (when they achieve full officer status) they can ensure the crew discharge their duties efficiently when they are being assigned their tasks. . Engineering Officers, will often continue to be involved in dirty and laborious work of a highly technical nature e.g. when repairing damaged motors, turbines, etc.. .
