I love greek mythology and like read a lot of it is it still like practiced in greece

Answer #1

bluebat80, Yes, I mixed up my pantheons. In any case Zeus and Jupiter are the same God. Jove was Zeus’ name in Hellenic Rome.

My point still stands that the classics have not died out. There are many influences from these civilizations that still shape us. Our culture is a rich tapestry of everything that came before it.

Answer #4

To the classical Greeks it wasn’t mythology, it was their religion.

Remember that any religion older than your own is a myth and any religion newer than your own is a cult.

Since so much of our culture comes from Greece there are many examples where we still refer to the Greek pantheon. Jupiter was the mightiest of the Greek Gods.and Greeks used to sweat to tell the truth by uttering “by Jove” much someone might say “so help me God” today. Today people say “by Jove” when they telling unlikely that they swear it true. Someone is considered jovial or Jupiter-like if they are characteristically upbeat.
