What are some foods that will provide healthy fats other than nuts and avocados?

Answer #1

Cold water fish provide Omega 3 fatty acids which most people don’t get enough of. Unfortunately it still has cholesterol so if your cholesterol is high you might not want go overboard here. Flax seed also provides Omega 3 though a different form.

Answer #2

Seeds in general are a good source; especially flax seeds, as filletofspam mentioned, but also sesame, sunflower, and my personal favorite, pumpkin seeds (pepitas). Among nuts, walnuts have the most Omega 3 - but it’s best to eat a wide variety of most food categories, including nuts and seeds; each kind can contribute something of distinctive value. Wheat germ is another good source, though not as intensely oily. All these are best eaten raw or lightly toasted (which you can easily do yourself in a toaster oven in you have one) rather than roasted. All these plant sources offer more of a broader range of micronutrients along with their healthy oils, and fewer toxic pollutants, than you’ll get from fish. I don’t mean to suggest that you need to avoid fish entirely, but it’s best to rely more on foods of plant origin, and to be careful about what fish you eat.
