I am pretty sure those are illegal pets in most areas, or you’d need a license. Either way, a lot of these exotic pets come from illegal trades, as in they are captured from the wild and sold to pet shops. What you get then is a very wild, unsociable, possibly diseased, and dangerous animal. Exotic animals that can live peacefully as a pet needs to be bred down by special breeders over a few generations to get ones that are less aggressive. So if you do manage to convince your mom later, get one from a reputable breeder in your area, and not just in a pet shop.

I doubt your mom would allow you an exotic pet for your first pet. You have to demonstrate that you can take care of animals properly, and you should start out with an easy one like a cat. You need to show responsibility with your pets to convince your mom later that maybe you’re up to the task of special animals like these that need extra special care.

Remember to show your mom that you have done all the research on taking care of the animals you want (including types and costs of habitat, food, vet bills, possible health problems when older, allergies, and understanding the nature of these animals - e.g. shy/aggressive/playful/etc).

I love wild animals too. Sure you can “keep” bats and foxes and the like…just find your local wildlife rescue and volunteer ! They’ll teach you how to feed , house, handle, and care for the wild ones… and maybe you can get a wildlife rehab license ! We need people like you , who love the sometimes ugly ones..to help save them ! PS. You’ll need to go to your doctor for rabies vaccines… ouch..they hurt the arm… but bats are high carriers of ALWAYS fatal rabies…and foxes, skunks, and raccoons are also . Dawn :)

mytserywolf is right I’ve had pet bats before but my mum is a wildlife carer, and she has a license to keep pets like those without a license it would be illegal to own one and you can end up paying a huge fine for having them

Bats would probably be out of the question, because although the species is now supposed to be protected, they were on the list of endangered species. I’m not sure about foxes, although farmers dislike them and there have been many fox-hunts happened in the past. Also, the fox is more commonly a wild animal, so it wouldn’t be very fair to take one from it’s natural habitat. It’s important to think about what’s best for the animals, and I don’t think bats or foxes would be very happy being cooped up in a house, garden or animal pen, etcetera.

Bats around here carry rabies…not all, but all it takes is ONE…I’m quite sure they are illegal.
