Do you think clownfish would make good pets?

We have a few fish in a small container in our house, but I was wondering what you think of clownfish. Do you think clownfish would make good pets? I saw a couple when we went to visit an aquarium (the kids all said “there’s nemo” it was very cute).

Here’s a picture of the clownfish, do you think we should get some for our fishtank?

Answer #1

Yeah, they would be good pets, but they are saltwater fish and thus high maintenance.

Answer #2

I was thinking about getting a clownfish, but how expensive are they? I looked on another web site and it said that they range from 15 to 50$ and that’s a big difference plus the tank and the food and supplies is really expensive. Is it a good idea to get on or should I stick to the guppies and goldfish?

Yea, what esconsult1 said… they are saltwater fish so they are high maintenance. You have to buy a heater and keep the water at a certain temperature. That can be a pain if the power goes out. My friend bought betas for her twins. Then bought tiger barbs because the sales guy they can be in the tank with betas. DON’T put those two together. The tiger barbs killed the betas and the other 3 swordtails also. Goldfish are fairly easy to take care of. They do have personality, but I wouldn’t put them in a fish bowl. Our goldfish knew when it was feeding time and would “follow” us across the room until fed LOL. If you do get a clown fish, don’t forget Jaque!
