Why would cinnamon candy cause discomfort in my tongue?

So I’ve been on a kick of eating hot tamales. Bought the suckers at a dollar store for a dollar a box. So I’ve eaten around 3 boxes already, and now it feels like my tongue has been scorched with a flamethrower. It’s been 12 hours since I’ve eaten any, and I still experience pain with eating on my tongue, specifically the top of my tongue and sides. Anyone have insight on this?

I know exactly what you are going through. Had the same thing happen to me just a few months ago. And I’m 25 and still can;t resist the taste cinnaminny goodness of Hot Tamales.

Answer #2

Taste buds can be damaged by the cinnamon oils and additives in the candy.

Luckily taste buds don’t take too long to heal and within a day or 2 you should be back to normal.

Try eating the hot tamales in moderation.

Also, try and drink some water to help the hotness go away so that it doesn’t irritate your tongue so much.
