Why does journalism always forget to ask for the proof?

the mta the train and the city always are saying we have deficit but nobody any media like tv , magazine, newspapers ask them these question ok mayor or whatever you said to the people that the city has deficit you can show a proof like what the city did with the money in what the city spend the money we never see any proof we only follow his league and what he said like litlle sheeps. I think we need a more aggressive journalism what do you think about this any answer is welcome thank you.

Here’s how journalism has changed from the past. In the past the idea was to hunt for the story and the papers would sell. Now it is about telling the reader what they want. And it is political, if you ask the wrong questions, you are no longer invited to interview. It’s about money and selling the paper. It isnt surprising that journalists no longer do their job.
