Why do people think cheelreading is not a sport?

I think cheerleading is a real sport me I am a cheerleader my self and doing all those stunts, flips, and tumbles they are not as easy as they look I want you to try to all of the things cheerleaders do and get back to me on how easy or hard it is

o yeah and by the way your team is not ranked number 1 in tn I looked it up in 5 seconds and your team, chattanooga xplosion , wasn’t even close to being ranked in the top =0

oh yeah I’m on a real sucky team thats why we’re ranked number one in the state right yeah and they dont have cheerleaders for softball it’s basketball adn they suck nobody likes them and you can teven hear them. and playing for a rec league dont count as advanced.

I dont think cheerleading is a sport, especially if your not competing simple as that, shaking your butt in fron tof people, not so hard

softballchick, wow then you must of been on a sucky team that didn’t do anything like I said sssooo first of all no offense but I think some softball teams like dont do anythign and I’ve played softball in the advance leagues and its easy as hell so dont even go there

I was a cheerleader for 4 years and I would always being argueing with people that cheerleading is a sport. I think people who have actually done cheerleading will say it is a sport and the only reason why people dont is because they think it’s so easy when its a lot harder than other sports.

u deff. have 2 b in shape 2 do the jumps and flips and you have 2 work your freakin butt off 2…it is a sport because its not a club, or anything like that so I agree w/ softball chick it is an athletic sport and it is very hard…!

Some cheer leading is - some isn’t. Heres what ‘sport’ means and if the certain cheer leading squad does all this then they are certainly doing a sport:

* A physical activity which involves propelling a mass through space or overcoming the resistance of a mass
* A contest or competition against or with an opponent
* Is governed by rules which explicitly define the time, space and purpose of the contest and the conditions under which a winner is declared
* The acknowledged primary purpose of the competition is a comparison of the relative skills of the participants 

Personally I think that if they aren’t doing any competitions then its not a sport, they are just entertaining. But some cheer leading is competitive which makes it a sport.

Cheerleading is physically demanding. So therefore, it’s a sport.
