Why are our dogs scratching and biting with no fleas
Basically acting like they have fleas but dont
If the dog is biting and licking a lot, it’s possible it has anxiety. I know it sounds crazy but my friends dog has it. I’d say if you’ve tried everything including flea treatments etc it’s best just to get a vet opinion :)
If you can’t see anything on their skin, yet they chew and scratch like there’s no tomorrow…I’d say allergy. There’s lots of different kinds…but the first thing I’d do is get them on GOOD dog food. No Benefill or any of the grocery store type foods. If they still itch, move on to another premium food (my dog ended up allergic to grain…all grain…so I put him on a grainless dogfood, and he hasn’t itched since).
This is where I’d start.
Here’s a list of dogfoods that are scored by their ingredients…choose one from the A’s and B’s…

Probably mange.
It could be mange. All dogs have naturally occurring mite populations. But in some situations - such as under-developed or impaired immune system, intense stress, or malnutrition, the mites can reproduce rapidly, causing symptoms in sensitive dogs that range from mild itching and hair loss on a small patch of skin to severe and widespread inflammation, secondary infection, and worse. Incidentally, there are 2 types of mites that can cause mange, and one type can spread from dog to dog, and even to other animals, including humans. So if you suspect mites, a vet might be a good idea.
Good Luck!!
Maybe they have some fleas or a skin irritation. There doesn’t have to be a lot of fleas for them to be scratching. I also noticed that my basset scratches and cries when she does it occasionally, just because it feels nice. kinda funny to witness.
