Answer #1

The answer is in the Book of Acts in the Bible” Peter, James, John, Andrew, Philip,Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James, Simon Judas, and after Judas death, Matthias was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Answer #2

The twelve apostles are the 12 new moons (months) in a year. Some years only have 11 new moons, which is why Judas is in the story - there needed to be a time with only 11 apostles. The apostles are a rehash of ancient astrotheology, which was grafted onto a mystic Jewish savior cult in the formative years of Christianity.

There were really 13 apostles. Matthias replaced Judas after he either hung himself (according to matthew), or fell and burst open (according to acts).
