When should you be totally independent?

I think my parents are preety over protective. my brothers 21 and has to ask if he want to stay out past about 10 or 12 at night and if he wants to sleep at a friends house. shouldnt he be in charge over stuff like that? I think its only neccesary for my brother to tell them where he is going and stuff only because he still lives at home with us. would it be okay at his age for him to sleepver his girlfriends house?

Answer #1

Your home your rules, Being over protective is constantly communicating with him, snooping through his stuff, being all up in his buisness

Answer #2

Sadly Moe is 100% correct. If your brother wants to live by his own rules, he needs to be living in his own house paying his own bills.

It also is a sense of respect to your parents lettign them know where he is so they dont come home and have no idea where he is.

Answer #3

I AGREE WIT MOE, SINCE your BROTHER IS UNDER your PARENTS ROOF ITS THEIR RULES. you GONNA HAVE TO BE READY WHEN you WANNA DO THINGS.. you WILL HAVE IT THE WORST WAY BECUASE your A GIRL… I HATE THAT BUT HEY

Answer #4

Of course, he’s an adult. But since he still lives with your parents he has to go by their rules. If they want him to hop on one foot and sing nursery rhymes, he has to do it or find his own place. :)

Answer #5

He’s dependent on your parents… There is no age to be totally independent, but if you want to be, well then you have to support yourself, which means getting a job…
