When ou drink a lot of diet coke can you put on weight?

I know it’s a stupid question, because it’s DIET coke. But I drink a lot of it so I was just wondering.

Answer #1

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills, looking at these answers.

No, absolutely not, you cannot gain weight from drinking Diet Coke. Drink a can, drink a swimming pool full, it makes no difference; there is zero caloric content in Diet Coke. The only way to gain weight is to consume more calories than you burn, and with no caloric content, Diet Coke is not adding anything to your daily calorie count. You’d be just as likely to gain weight from water.

Drinking three Diet Cokes is in no way equal to drinking one Coke, and yes, Diet Coke is very, very different from regular Coke. Coke is flavored with corn syrup and caramel, making it calorie-dense. Diet Coke is flavored with an aspartame, which is so sweet, only minuscule amounts are used to flavor the liquid, making its caloric value as close to zero as you can get without actually being zero.

Answer #2

My dad literally only drinks diet coke and he is a massive fatass

Answer #3

Of course. Mass comsumption of ANY substance can make you put on weight. Coke has sugar and carbs, along with calories. DIET coke just has less, but they’re still there.Drinking three diet cokes is the same as drinking a regular coke, so it adds up quickly.

Answer #4

Diet Coke is not that much different than regular coke. All soda will make you put on weight very quickly. If you cut out soda out of your diet it is most likely you will drop at least a couple pounds within the first month.

I hate that america has gotten so bad that most people drink it daily where as it should be for special occasions or a once of week thing.

Answer #5

Your father is not fat because he drinks Diet Coke. That’s called correlation, not causation. Once again, Diet Coke does not have any energy in it, so it impossible for that energy to be stored as fat. From the Wikipedia page on aspartame:

While aspartame, like other peptides, has a caloric value of 4 kilocalories (17 kilojoules) per gram, the quantity of aspartame needed to produce a sweet taste is so small that its caloric contribution is negligible, which makes it a popular sweetener for those trying to avoid calories from sugar.
