What causes the bubbles in Mentos and Diet Coke?

When I put a roll of Mentos in a bowl full of Diet Coke why do foam bubbles go everywhere and then millions of them burst?

Answer #1

i did this for my science experiment. for one, the small exposures in the mentos are filled with the liquid causing bubbles to form in those areas due to the carbonation of the drink. the bubbles then rapidly rise because of the chemical reaction in the mentos and create a reaction, or the fountain that you see.

Answer #2

Mentos’ gelatin inhibits a physical reaction on the diet coke to release carbon dioxide gas. Most likely due to the loss of pressure and surface tension allowing the passage of the gas in a fast reaction.

Answer #3

i dont kno. but then i took at 2 leader bottle nd a pack of mentos nd put about 8 of it into the bottle nd it came out like a fountain. it was cool.
