What's the whole point of confession?

So I’m catholic. Not a strong one like my mother is, but I am. I recently found out porn was a sin because of lust, or whatever. But you can repent, in other words confess. But let’s say you sin and sin: (not immortal sins) but normal sins nevertheless, then confess, and then watch porn, and then confess again. Is it a bad thing? I’m likee freaking out ; I think I’ll confess tomorrow, and leave my curiousity far behind.

God will alwyas forgive you, no matter what, as long as you are truly sorry for what you have done. However, if you are planning in the back of your mind to do it again, then you are not really truly sorry. you just need to tell God that you have sinned and ask him to forgive you. You don’t need to tell anyone else if you dont want to. IT can absolutely be just between you and GOd?

Answer #2

confessing is a way to tell God that you realized your mistake and you dont want to do it again.

Answer #3

Thats why I think I am going to weight till I am old and gray to confess.

thats fine and dandy unless you die tommorrow… never get a chance to confess then what???

the point of forgivness is to repent and never do it again.

if your boyfriend/girlfriend cheated on you, and said she was sorry, but did it again, was he/she really THAT sorry?

exactly.

its the same with God.

thats why so much of catholocism doesnt even go with the Bible and has many flaws that do not pertain to the teachings of Christ at all.

Answer #4

Who is the priest to forgive you?? Hes not god he has no right. Why should someone have to tell the priest what you have done?? God does forgive you if you are truly Sorry but if you keep doing what your doing and ask for forgiveness your not truly sorry. Pray to god and ask him to help you so you dont get that tentation to whatch pornography but you also have to try really hard. If you ask your mom why you have to confess she wont know either The catholic Church Has so much power they tell you what to do and people do it.

Answer #5

No its not a bad thing at all. I am a catholic to but not a strong one as well. All the stuff I’ve done I have been going to hell for a long time. I am not scared at all lol bc I can confess. watch porn all you want its fun lol haha. I think the worse thing is going to church and telling your paster that you watched 3 hours of porn just saying. Thats why I think I am going to weight till I am old and gray to confess.

Answer #6

if masterbating is not a sin then porn should not be either it is just a kick start lol

Answer #7

haha, funny you should ask. we were asking the same thing before but we know the answer. you should not confess to the priest person but to God because God is the one who will forgive you, not the priest person. I’m not saying that you have to but maybe you should try to go to a non-catholic christian church. I just suggested this because catholics don’t accept some parts of the bible. but those facts that hey deny is actually the truth. also, you have traditions that aen’t even in the bible. you know, those memorized prayers and stuff. prayers are supposed to be talking to God, not quoting to God. so yah, good, luck. I have nothing against you or something. I’m just saying the truth I know.

Answer #8

Confess to God, not to some priest. The priest is not God. God will forgive you as long as your willing to be forgaven.

Answer #9

This the one of the problems of Catholicism. Note I said Catholicism and not Christianity. It is an Erroneous doctrine that you should confess to the priests. Confession first of all is not only just telling someone all that you have done. Biblically it is a process of getting rid of a sin.

First the person that we need to confess to is, Jesus Christ.

Secondly, we need to know the Biblical meaning of confession and why they are required.

Confession is telling Jesus Christ that you know that what you did was a sin, you realize that that sin if not forgiven by Jesus Christ will lead you to Hell, and there by you ask Jesus Christ to forgive that sin and telling Jesus that you will in all even try to avoid doing that sin and place yourself in the risk of Hell.

If you plan to sin again and again then that means you did not repent, this means your confession would not be proper and that means your sin is not forgiven. You are then at a risk of Hell.

Answer #10

we all have sinned however those who overcome wil be crown with eternity. God is loving but he also a judge. It is important you begin to draw nearer to God and tell him you have an issue with lust. there are three things you need to overcome

Regular communication with God like he is your best friend

Study the bible, read 2 verses a day, pick your favorite texts

and avoid anything that may lead to unholy thoughts and replace them with other activites: sports, good friends, church fellowship esp youth groups

Be an overcomer not a product of Society.

Answer #11

There’s no point to confession. God’s not listening keeping score of what you’ve done right or wrong. He gave us free will so do what you will. Of course I’m not a Christian so my views could be conflicting to yours but that’s how I see it anyways. If God really cared about all the things we did he probably would’ve already zapped us out of existence. God doesn’t hate or get mad at us or get upset with us, he doesn’t have the child-like emotions that Christianity has bestowed upon him. He’s not emotionally retarded believe it or not he’s the only pure being in existence, that’s were Christianity kind of fucked things up and contradicted themselves. See this is the problem, Christians believe God is omnipotent (All knowing) so ultimately based on their own belief God already knew what we have done and are going to do so why would he get mad? He already knew it so it’s not like he’s surprised by it. Also, based around the Christians view of God since he created us in his likeness he created us as he is so wouldn’t that mean he gets mad at himself. So basically he gets angry at us when we do things that he knew we were going to do, that he created us to do. Doesn’t make much sense right. So then that brings up the whole then why do Christians believe in Hell.. It doesn’t make sense. So here’s what I’ve got for you based on the bible. God is omnipotent (All knowing) so he knows our actions created us knowing what we would do on this Earth but punishes us for doing the things that we do, that he created us, knowing that we would do them, and creating us for the purpose of doing them, while showing human emotion, anger, sadness, and hate such emotions that Christianity in itself or at least Christians say that God does not have. So for the things that God knew we were going to do he is going to send us to eternal damnation. By the way you can’t argue that God doesn’t know what we are going to do because the bible says he is omnipotent (All knowing) therefore he knows all things, that includes past, present, and future.

Answer #12

confession is simply a way of letting go whats deep inside you. I know some people say “who is the priest to forgive you”, well its not the priest that is forgiving you darling. its something in yourself that you put to believe. God is the one who fogives you but this is a way to repent and if you go to confess and do it all over again, its not that bad either. in this case you must start asking God to help you be pure in whatever you see and do. You also have to put of yourself and yes confession is a good thing. I know that people who become priest are to be trusted because no man will want to spend their lives doing a priest job unless they are of faith. don’t let other people wash your brains and come tell you that confession is not good. you might rather do what you think is best. we can only advice you and not make moves for you. you have the last word my friend!! hope you ask god to keep you clean!!! love you in the name of God!! take CAre… am not a strong catholic but I do defend what is right!!lol bye
