Does walking or jogging burn more fat?

can someone tell me if I’m right? I hurd that walking burns fat and jogging builds muscle. so if I wanted to loose/burn fat I should power walk. is that true? if not what bunrsmore fat?

I lost weight and noticeable fat in my tummy by doing interval training. I walk at 4.5mph on the treadmill for 2 minutes and spring at 7.5mph for 1 minute. I alternate the two for 30 minutes. I like interval training because it makes it less boring then running for a straight 30 minutes.

Okay, I’m almost 46 years old and have been fast pace walking for just over a month and lost 11 lbs eating low carb. I felt like I was in a rut so my doctor told me to turn my 30-45 minute walk in to the combonation of walking 5 minutes then jogging a minute. I never though I could do it but did it last night and this morning I was 4 lbs lighter! I can’t wait for my walk, jog again tonight. My goal is to loose a total of 30 lbs by my 46th birthday, June 23rd. I can do this! T Cooper - Alabama

I lost weight by walking and fast paced walking. I also would turn up the radio and dance lol

Professor_Kasey is the closest to right. When your heart rate is in the fat burning zone (60%-75%) your body is able to burn fat stores. In the cardio zone (75%-85%) you’re body can’t convert fat fast enough for energy, so it burns carbohydrates, then fat or muscle. Although cardio burns more calories, it’s not always “fat”.

So yes a combination of the 2 is best.

I lost 30 pds in a month by doing a 5 minuete walk and then running as hard as I could for 1 minute. Do this for 30 minutes to an hour.

Actually filletofspam had it right. Walking does burn more fat than running. Running uses glycogen stores, and so does sprinting.

However, to burn the MOST fat of all, you want to use a tricky combination. First, run as fast as you can for 20 minutes. This places the body under stress for a sufficient time to cause the release of hormones that will break down fat (such as somatotrophin, and epinephrine). After this, you walk for 30 minutes. Now that you have the stress hormones attaching to beta receptorcites, you can walk and burn even MORE fat. This doesn’t work nearly as well with HIIT training.

Answer #6

The best workouts to lose fat are long low intensity ones. If you are trying to loose fat you are better off walking 4 miles in an hour than jogging 2 miles in 20 minutes. From a cardiovascular point of view the 2 mile 20 minute jog may be superior though.

The thing is if you have a set amount of time to exercise you are better off increasing the intensity to burn more calories. You burn a greater number of calories in an intense workout than an easy one. If time is not limited you are better off increasing the length of the workout than the intensity though.

Answer #7

Best way: high intensity intervals. Walk at a fast enough rate that it would be hard to speak normally to someone, for say, a minute. Then run for a minute. Keep alternating. It may be hard at first so you could walk for 5 minutes then run for only a minute. Either way the goal is to eventually be able to do 50/50 of both.

Answer #8

if you build muscle by jogging…muscle burns more calories on it’s own. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn on a day-to-day basis.

Answer #9

from my experience in football jogging and sprinting is the way to go…Start with a 5 minute jog and at the end of the jog sprint 30 seconds full speed and relax with a jog and another five minutes sprint again for 30 seconds! repeat the cycle til’ you can no longer push your self. Make sure to stretch out your quads and so forth!

Answer #10

what do you think?

what consumes more calories???

easy walking…or excrutiating jogging/running??

the answer is obvious…

before cars were invented, people walked everywhere. it wasnt considered an excercise then…and I dont agree with people that say it should be one now. it does burn calories…but so does every day life activities.

pushing your body beyond whats normal or easy, is what will get you there much quicker than you think.

Answer #11

Keeping your heart rate up (look it up according to your age and weight) in the fat burning zone for 30 minutes a day is what burns it. Jogging is a cardio activity and gets your heartrate sky high with a quickness. But walking as fast as you possibly can keeps you in a fat burning zone with your heartrate just below cardio levels.

Answer #12

to burn fat, you need to either walk or sprint but don’t jog. Even though jogging might burn more calories than walking, jogging works your muscles while walking and sprinting draws energy from your fat or glucose storage… I can’t remember.
