Does walking burn fat?

I do an eliptical 20min at a hard pace to break a sweat, then walk an hour a day and at a rate of 2.3mph, and 2.5 incline. This keeps my heartrate at below cardio levels and in the fat burning rate. The problem is I don’t feel like I am working out, I don’t feel like I doing much to improve my fitness. If I walk briskly I exceed the fat loss zone and go into the cardio level. Is it my heart has not conditioned enough yet with cardio to excersise efficiently? I am 32, 210lbs, and when I walk briskly my heart rate is around 147-155. When I do the eliptical, it stays a steady 164, when I walk slowly it is around 121. But my resting heart rate is 78-82bpm? Any thoughts?

I think it is possible to burn more fat, but you should walk for longer. One hour of walking is the equivalent to about fifteen minutes of running as far as cardio. If you have more time, walk for longer, or try to jog bits of the way. Hope this helped!

An eliptical will burn fat, however, it may be that you’re not walking for long enough. You need to exercise for a longer period of time, once your body is accustomed to the strain, to continue to improve and burn more fat.

So, if the incline isn’t enough, then you should try the next higher setting…I’m in the same boat, BUT for me the 20 min on the elliptical is all I can handle :( Too much sitting at the computer.
