What do you think of Vancouver's new law banning smoking at public beaches and parks?

Do you think the ban is going too far by now targeting outdoor public areas, or is this something you wish all cities would take on?

Answer #1

I am glad there is no smoking in any businesses in Oregon, not even Bars. But to say someone canoot enjoy a cig sitting by a campfire? that sounds kind of excessive. Smoking is bad though. bad, bad, bad! :)

I think it’s great! Smokings icky, and I really don’t want to get cancer from your ciggerettes so keep it in your own house. Plus people just throw the butts on the ground and that’s yucky and it pollutes the park and stuff. Good on Vancouver ^.^ All cities should have that.

I am getting fed up with the smoking bans practically everywhere. I understand places like restraunts where there are children and people are eating, but you can smoke on hospital propert outside, at any bar, they are even talking about bans in your own car or in your front yard. I think outdoor placs like parks are ok, as long as you butt the ciggs in the proper places. If not fine them for littering. I mean…like I said before, they might as well make them illegal.

No offense to any smokers here….:P

In a way i wish they would & run the whole tobacco trade to hell… speaking from a an ex smoker’s point of view…think about how much you will be saving if you didnt have to buy cigi’s…. now just think of how much free time you had instead of having to go out & smoke somewhere…

now think of all the millions of people that would be saved from the smoke, yeah second hand smoke is worse then smoking one period…and then think of the kids that are by your side while you are smoking & they inhale that second hand smoke…

why they are banning it so it is so difficult to smoke in a public area..because people are fed up of inhaling second hand smoke, getting cancer & above all as mentioned above, throwing the buds all over the place especially in parks or beaches where kids are playing find them buried in the sand & start putting it in their mouths!

Now if that isnt enough I dont know what is… I stopped smoking not because i wanted to but because I had to…I come from an asthmatic family…dad was a heavy smoker, mom was a light smoker…i was blessed(more like cursed) with second hand smoke…grew up to do just the exact same thing…and the more i did it the worse i got…i was literally smoking til i felt that nasty burning sensation in my throat & said ah…f*ck it you only live once…with all the stuff I knew…with all the stuff I have upper respiratory issues (including a form of bronchitis) and with that said…i was still downing over a pack & a half of cigi’s a day! i wind up spending 300 dolloars on cigi’s every six months! i was reduced to buying them when i visited abroad in the duty free bcz it was so much cheaper…it would have cost me 11 bucks a pack where as i got 4 cartons+1(free) cartons for 150 dollars…sick….yeah it is sick…but imagine if I had to pay 11 dollars for 1 pack rather then the way i did it! I am not a millionaire, but these companies that are killing us one by one are becoming millionaires bcz we support it….we say yes please give us more so we can d!e… so, that is my story….I choose to live…screw cigi’s & the damn companies…and hell they should ban them everywhere in the US too parks, and beaches & all! Hell I wish they did that here as well…(abroad) they only have it in public places…like restaurants…but some pubs allow it in a certain section!) arg….

I’m glad to hear they’re getting rougher on smokers. When it comes to beaches, people want to come and relax and smell the fresh air, not someone or a group’s cigarette smoke, nobody does. I honestly think they should do that for every country, not just Canada, the United States could really use a law like that.

Answer #6

Hey, my boyfriend is quitting smoking because there isn’t many places he can do it.. I hate the smell of them. Out here it’s illegal to smoke in the car with a child (I forget the specific age?) I wouldn’t have cared if they made a little ‘’Smoking Spot’’ on the beach though..

Answer #7

I think its a good idea because parks are for children for the most part and no child should be getting 3rd hand smoke (i think its 3rd hand if not its 2nd hand) I just wish it was banned in genrall. Sorry 4 my spelling errors.

Answer #8

I’m glad that they are super stricht. It makes people more aware of not doing it. I lived in a house where my father constantly smoked and as a result have asthma and other allergies so I’m glad and would be glad if they could totally eliminate it. I don’t think people should be doing their bad habits out in the open.
