Training my pug puppy.

I have a six month old pug puppy and I love her to death! The only problem is that she wont housetrain. She does good with it but still has accidents. I dont know what to do to show her to go outside. I was thinking about the petsmart trainging prgrams. I also want to teach her to sit, shake, etc. Is the petsmart thing a good idea? And if not what other ideas do you guys have?

Ditto to Phrannie, We have to make sure we create a good eating and potting schudel and stick with it. If she is playing and wonders off, she has to go Done eating or drinking she has to go just woke up, she has to go. Good luck and read as much info about dog training as you can

The only drawback with Pugs that I can think of, is that they are very hard to housetrain completely…tho, it can be done. The same regime you’ve used since puppyhood, must be followed until you KNOW she can be trusted. (You doing her “thinking” for her, by getting her out before she goes, leaving her out until she goes, and praising (or with Pugs, one piece of kibble as a reward :) ) immediately after she goes…this can go on for 5 or more months with some…They are so cute, and so eager to please, it never ceases to amaze me that they can be sooo determined on this subject…

You can also help the process by saying “Go Pee”, or “Pee Pee” until she goes, eventually, she’ll pee command…so you can shorten you time outside…

petsmart could help but try this:

  • when she has an accident in the house, show it to her (scold her)
  • put her outside and keep her out there until she goes to the bathroom
  • then praise her when when she goes outside, and if you have treats give her one each time until she gets the hang of it
  • keep doing that then hopfully she tell you when she needs to go outside

Hope this helps,
