What can I do to potty train my 4-year-old?

my son is 4 years old and wants nothing to do with the potty. he will pee on it if I sit him on it but he will not tell you he has to go he will tell you after he has already gone. he will not poop on the potty at all. I have tried stickers toys money just about everything I can think of any suggestions would be wonderful

Tell him that big boys go on the potty and only big boys can have a cookie for desert, then everyone who is potty trained eat a cookie for desert. Do the same thing with EVERYTHING you do, within a week, he’ll give in and want the rewards. My mother in law even told her sons that they had to wear overalls (which they hated) everyday until they were potty trained. She said it took one son 3 days and the other only ONE day! Also, buy the book potty training in a day, it helps!

Both of my boys were the same way when they were 4 (apparently it’s normal for boys to learn at a later age than girls). I tried everything with my oldest…M&M’s, stickers, even putting Cheerios in the toilet…like target practice, this one he thought was really funny and it worked for peeing. However he still wouldn’t poop in the potty. Eventually I got sick of his “accidents” and put big boy underwear on him. The first mess I cleaned up while he watched, the second he cleaned up while I watched, there wasn’t a third.

If he’s really not ready then stop for awhile and try again in a couple of months. He will let you know if he’s ready so don’t fight him on it. My son told me he wanted to use the potty but pooping in it was scary…a lot of kids get scared when they poop in the potty and then have to flush “a piece of them self” away.

Were you having a hard time potty training him when he was younger? It’s much easier (I know I sound crazy) to train them when they are younger because well it just is better. I’m sure you’re having the problem that he has to learn or he won’t beable to go to school? I would attempt to maybe have daddy show him about the potty or grandpa? Might work…

My friends little brother was still wearing diapers at 5, he is a normal kid too. Eventually they did not let him wear diapers any more… It was sorta gross, but effective.
