We had that problem with my younger son (from reading here & talking to friends, boys are way harder to potty train than girls).

Did you try a “reward” chart? Eg, give him the stickers on the chart for say, a 3 day stretch to get something extra special…so that he has to work for longer at it.

And, try to do it in the morning, right after breakfast. Have him sit and read him a story, if you read the whole thing, eventually, things will ‘happen’ as it’s the right time of day.

Last…make sure he gets enough water to drink as even a small amount of dehydration at his age will make it harder for him to go easily, which will discourage him.

Good luck! (I have two boys myself, but my younger one is now 7…so, it’s been a few years, but I remember as it was our biggest challenge of the first four years with him) :)

Please donr make your baby clean his own poop that will be so devistating to him Pooping on the potty is a very scary thing and if he ever had a movement on the toilet that hurt he thinks the toilet hurts. the main thing to remember is they may be a child but they aare still a person with feelings and fears. You should give him some murelax in a strawberry milk mix this will help soften his stools. give him a small dose daily. just love him and be patient, let him watch you poop and then try to encourage him to do the same. If you are all worked up about getting him trained it will stress him out and he will fight harder

I saw on tv one time to teach them responsibility of their actions. for example, have him to clean up his poo-poo. if he poops in his pants he must hand wash his underwear. I know it sounds rough, but someone has to do it.
