Those who dont believe in god

This question is for those who do not believe in god or in any higher power for that matter: what do you live for? Do you feel like you have a purpose? Why do you believe you are on this earth, living and breathing? Do you ever wonder if it’s something out there greater?

Please no hecklers, radical god-haters, or mean people. I’m just wondering how you think and feel :) thank you all

Answer #1

{What do you live for?} me.

{Do you feel like you have a purpose?} sure, but I’m to young to know what it is yet.

{Why do you believe you are on this earth, living and breathing?} because my parents decided to have unprotected sex…

{Do you ever wonder if it’s something out there greater?} ehh yeah, but I’ll never know what it is, or if it even exists until I’m dead. so I don’t really waste time thinking about it too much.

Answer #2

What do you live for?

It’s bred into to me too. To experience, the World. Which exists to me in my brain. For my self. I feel privalidged, to have and understand this experience. And I just adore life and Earth.

Do you feel like you have a purpose?

There is no actual pupose to life, just as there is no actual purpose to all the 100’s of billions of galaxies out there hurling through space. Life is just a natruel occuring thing. But there is individual purpose.

Why do you believe you are on this earth, living and breathing?

Because of physics. I’m on this Earth “living and breating” like everyone else, Because of this planet (and essentially this Universe, and sun) which harbourd resourses and conditions, to begin and sustain the process of life. We came from 4 billion years of evolution from simple life to more complex and eventually primates, where our ancestors evolved to sapient status through some evolutionary track. We are a complicated species because we talk, think, etc, these behaviors reflect the experiences of ancestors.

Do you ever wonder if it’s something out there greater?

What do you mean greater? Who says there aren’t any extraterrestrials out there worthy of our submission? The Universe it self is greater, .. and all it is, is negative energy( gravity) interacting with positive(matter) Who knows if there are other Universes out there.

Answer #3

“What do you live for?”

Since I’m agnostic, part of what I live for is to gain knowledge and understanding about all things.

“Do you feel like you have a purpose?”

Read the book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible. It’s a great book. The writer at first despairs that there is no point in life because everything eventually passes away. But he eventually comes to the conclusion that since everything does pass away, it’s important to enjoy this life, cherish what you have, and also help others enjoy life. That is how I’d summarize my answer to this question.

“Why do you believe you are on this earth, living and breathing?”

Right now, I feel the reason we’re all here is because of the evolution of our species over millions of years.

“Do you ever wonder if it’s something out there greater? “

Yes I do, and not just a supreme deity, but alternate dimensions and universes as well.

Answer #4

If radical god haters exist, I have never seen one on this board, so I don’t see the reason for saying it.

He may have sounded a bit condescending in his response to the”out there” question. But the question itself is a bit condecending. The problem with most believers is that when their beliefs are challenged they usually just resort to dogmatic arguments, which to a non-believer is just a dismissal. Trying to discuss facts against religious dogma is futile. If you use dogma to make your argument, it demands that the challenger must accept the dogma. Its kinda like the question: Do you still beat your wife? By answering either yes or no, you are accepting the fact that you did beat your wife.

Using the term “out there” seems to imply something supernatural, which to a non-believer sounds like dogma. I never have a problem discussing the origins of our universe, or the possibility that the supernatural world exists, but I refuse to engage in dogma. At least I try to refuse. I do get sucked in once in a while.

Answer #5

My life is focused on my husband, my immediate family, my few friends, and my wonderful animal companions. They bring me enough joy to make it worth facing another day. My life is also focused on learning new things and becoming a better person. That is another struggle worth enduring.

My life has the purposes that I assign to it. That is enough for me. I am one speck in a great cosmos and I feel privileged to have existed on this earth. “Why?” can’t begin to compare with “How?”.

I believe that Nature is far greater than I am, greater than any of us can comprehend. I respect that power and the majesty of Nature’s law but I see no need to call it “god” or worship it. Rather, I feel that I honor Nature by trying to understand all that my tiny mind can comprehend.

It’s a tragedy that you’d have to ask people to answer these questions without malice. They are good questions for us all to ponder regardless of our beliefs.

Answer #6

hi jaceb, I’d like to comment on comment, for one bc in one of your questions you posted you didnt like how we seemed like we thought we were better than you but that is how you are sounding in your comment. especially when you answered no bc I’m educated… like the rest of us arent.

and please do not put so much thought into how I worded my questions, I am well aware that there is only one earth, I apologize for saying ‘this earth’ instead of ‘earth’ , thats just how I typed it, it’s nothing deep. also, we obviously disagree about how we got on the earth. I acknowledge that, these are just simple questions bc I know what I think but I also want to know what you guys think.

as for your last comment, I understand that you cant hate something you dont think exists… so that is why I clearly was not referring to you in particular bc it does not pertain to u. you dont hate God, I know. but some people do, they believe He exists but they hate Him bc of something they think He allowed and for other reasons. so radical god haters do exist. and when I said no mean people I meant no mean remarks, sorry for not clearing that up. I just wanted regular answers and no ugliness bc I was seriously just wondering for my own curiosity. thanks for understanding

Answer #7

what do I live for im athiest and I have 2 things that I live for, protecting my loved ones and to have fun. Life is pointless if you don’t enjoy it to the fullest. What does a beliver in god live for, to serve?

do I feel like I have purpose Its wierd but I feel like I have more purpose than most people. I have all the skills of a great leader. I can manipulate peoples minds, excellent public speaker.(in school I got about 100 students in a study hall to get up and leave with me because the teacher pissed me off.) Im good at rallying the masses, and military tactics is second hand nature, I read. I know what my destiny is, but I have to wait until chaos is upon us. Which will happen, and I shall be the person to rally the people

And I do feel like something greater is out there, not sure what it is. All I know is that I’ve been way to lucky in my life tohave it be coincidence

Answer #8

I don’t believe in any spiritualbeing, and definitely not one single being, but I think Ibelieve in something… so I am agnostic,I guess. What do you live for I live for myself and what experiences life (and death) will bring me.

Doyou feel you have a purpose Yes, My purpose is to live and learn all I can before I pass away, and hopefullyencourage others to do the same.

Why do you believe you are on this earth, living and breathing Because of a mix of evolution and coincidence.

Do you ever wonder if it’s something out there greater Yeah, of course. ButI won’t know until I’m dead, as tinatodder said, so I only think about it ocasionally. Britz Hope I added to those other peoples contributions to show you our perspective. P.S. Sorry if I don’t have spaces between words, my spacebar is partlybroken… I was typing too hard sheepish grin

Answer #9

what do you live for?

I live for myself, my family, my friends, I live to help others, to teach, to learn, to investigate, to grow, to see, to FEEL, to love.

Do you feel like you have a purpose?

People always say “they feel like they have a purpose in life” but to tell you the truth, I’m not exactally sure what that is supposto mean… I mean, I exist… but I don’t feel like there is anyone who WANTS me to do anything specific, I live for myself… therefore, there would be nobody to give me a purpose to live but myeslf.

Why do you believe you are on this earth, living and breathing?

Well, first of all… when you say “THIS EARTH” it makes it sound like there is more than one earth… and that is not so.

You also make it sound like someone put me here, like I should have done something great to be here… I believe that I am here today because… well, number one.. the creation of earth… (the big bang, NOT “GOD”), evolution, and just a wee bit of coincidence.

Do you ever wonder if it’s something out there greater? No, never. I am educated.

“Please no hecklers, radical god-haters, or mean people. I’m just wondering how you think and feel thank you all”

You can’t hate something that does not exist, so there is really no such thing as “radical god haters”… and if you deney “mean people” access to this question… that just makes them want to answer it… very meanly.

Answer #10

“What do you live for? “

I don’t live FOR anything. I just live. There are many things that are important in my life, and I guess you can say I live for them.

“Do you feel like you have a purpose? “

I have lots of purposes. I work, I play, I love, I think.

“Why do you believe you are on this earth, living and breathing?”

I don’t BELIEVE I am on this earth, I know it. Why I am here is easy. I was born here, just like everyone else.

“Do you ever wonder if it’s something out there greater? “

Define “out there”? Considering how insignificant we are to the universe, I would say yes, there is a lot of things greater than us out there.

“Please no hecklers, radical God-haters, or mean people. I’m just wondering how you think and feel thank you all”

How can you hate something you don’t believe exists. I try not to “hate” anything or anyone. What I don’t like is the harmful effects that belief in the supernatural is causing to our society.

I feel that engaging in fantasy to the point where you think it is real is not healthy. That is what religious belief is, fantasy. And those who choose to deny the realities of the physical world, and choose to believe things that go against what we know about the physical world, are living in a fantasy world. It is a form of psychosis.

Answer #11

haha its ok im not aithest and all my friend believe in god so I understand

I dont believe he is a man but energy… its confusing but think of this

go to a christian and ask “what created the universe” he/she would say “god” what is god? he or she would say “he connot be created or distroyed, go’s through soul, in soul and out of soul, cant be seen” and some other stuff I cant think of right now lol

but if you went to a scientoligist and ask what created the universe? he/she would say energy what is energy? “connot be created or distroyed, go’s through soul, in soul and out of soul, cant be seen” and the same stuff I couldnt think

so really god is basecally energy but we made him to be a person for our better understanding

but yea.. thats my insight =] hope I helped

Answer #12

It seems not a matter of to live FOR. It is a matter of being ALIVE. All of us are winners, champions swimmers who swam faster than all the other millions of sperms.

You already got the trophy! What more do you want?

Answer #13

Actually, no, I have never met or talked to someone who says they hate god. People who believe in god usually are kind of fond of him. I’ve never heard anyone say, “Yeah I bleieve in god, but I can’t stand him.” I think you are talking about people who hate religion. That is very different.

Answer #14

tabzthestar - I agree with the energy part, however, God is all that, and so much more.

I think he is beyond anything that we can think or expect, since he is infinite, and we are finite beings.

Answer #15

Let me explain to you how I feel

I feel my purpose is to live my life to the fullest and make a difference now while I’m living. I think that I need to live my life now because aqfter I die all that’s left is what I’ve done.

Answer #16

I’m not saying I don’t believe in god, I’m just not very sure about myself and beliefs at this point in my life. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I’m only 18-years-old, I still have a lot of learning and discovering to do. But, I’m going to answer anyways.

What do you live for? I live for my family, I know you didn’t ask who I live for, but I live everyday for those who love me the most.

Do you feel like you have a purpose? I do believe I have a purpose, but I don’t feel as though I know what that purpose is right now.

Why do you believe you are on this earth, living and breathing? To somehow make a difference and to help others.

Do you ever wonder if it’s something out there greater? Yeah, and I believe I’ll find that something, someday.

Answer #17

I live for my children. Without them I would be nothing. I also love my work and that makes me feel whole and like im doing something to provide better for my family. I still love learning and I live to learn more. I am not religous at all and I was never brought up to be but I will say that when I have been in church for a wedding or a christning I feel at peace. Wierd isnt it. None of my family are religous except for my aunt and I love to hear about her faith.

Answer #18

What do you live for? I live for the fact I got a personal war going on in my life, I live for the fact I’m going to prove everybody wrong and that I don’t need any of them

Do you feel like you have a purpose? Yea, make life hell for them before they do it to me

Why do you believe you are on this earth, living and breathing? I dunno to be honest

Do you ever wonder if it’s something out there greater? Nah, even if there was he let me down a long time ago

Answer #19

I live for my hope in future career in writting and directing

Answer #20

I live for experience. I believe that life is about gaining knowledge, experience, relationships. I absolutely feel like I have a purpose, that purpose is just to live life, without the restrictions of religion or fear of going to hell. my purpose is to prepare my child for her life by passing on the knowledge and experience I have gained so far. I dont spend time wondering whats “out there” I focus on whats “right here.”

Answer #21

holy crap haha. im so sorry, I didnt even much answer those questions anyways…

“what do you live for”

I live for learing, about life, love and just celebrating every momment of.. hey! isnt that what we all live for? lol

‘Do you feel like you have a purpose?’ I think my purpose and everyones purpose is to live there OWN life, not what “god” chose for them. so if they want to kill people, thats there choice. =/ unfortunitly

‘Do you ever wonder if it’s something out there greater? ‘

like spirituly?? um I believe in karma and re- incarnation =] but other than that not really

Answer #22

ok so because u’ve never seen or met a god hater, that means they dont exist? I happen to know a lot of them and have even seen some on this very website. so whether or not you see the reason for me saying it isn’t really my issue. I’m just letting her know that such a thing does exist bc I know this for a fact. thanks you all for answering my question. I’ve been enlightened :)
