Is the Pope the Antichrist?

Now I’ve noticed that nobody will answer this question. I’ve even happened upon a question that has been posted for 3 years asking this question: I’ve heard from my mother that the antichrist will be the Pope, and that there is much proof in the bible.

Basically I realize that this theory may be against the Catholic Church as a whole, but after reading up on the history of it, and the whole child molestation thing with lonely priests, I’m not really against that theory.

I’m not posting this question for an argument but anyways Can someone dumb the idea and the proof down for me? Because, see, I’m not the brightest um…spoon in the…sock… XD

I agree with princessweird except for one thing. Benedict 16 is not a descendant of Peter–biologically at least. The Pope holds the same Apostolic See, or the seat of authority given to Peter by Jesus Christ Himself passed on from generation to generation as bishop of Rome (where Peter was martyred). Other denominations, using biblical text, accuse the bishop of Rome as the antichrist. I personally believe that any person who has publicly denied Jesus Christ as God and Savior and places himself above than Jesus Christ is an antichrist (like the caesars in ancient Rome, or some present day movement that venerates anyone as higher than Jesus Christ). So far, no pope has done that. Of course some have sinned privately of publicly (as Peter did during Christ’s Passion). Others may have acted in ways that the present world may consider as inhuman, but those days should be considered from our modern (and christianized) world. But never in the Roman Catholic Church history did any pope place himself–or by other bishops–as someone better than our Lord. Alas, some “christian” denominations do, even saying that Jesus was a mere man, and their founder an “angel”… So who’s the antichrist now?

Answer #2

actually i think that santa claus is more antichrist (which means “taking the place of christ”) than the pope.

Why? because Santa has replaced Jesus Christ during christmas. instead of trying to commemorate the memory of Christ’s birth, the celebration shifted to receiving gifts from an imaginary person. (of course, others may argue that Jesus is also an imaginary person, but that’s another debate).

the pope, meanwhile, still always make us think of the mission of christ here on earth, and how the Gospel should be propagated. sure there are lots of mistakes done through the ages, but those were hard times calling for hard decisions–to make our world view such as it is today.

The papacy has done its part in world history. Imagine fighting for a place in a non-christian world–right now even with christianity on the advantage it still is quite hard being christian!

as for other popes doing thisd and that which may cause the label “antichrist” by other christian denominations—well all i can say is: the Roman Catholic Church, for many centuries, have dominated christian affairs, but since the last century has preferred to downplay its temporal functions, focusing more on spiritual affairs.

Now the sons of the Reformation (like America) have the upper hand in the affairs of the world. And also we see them committing the same “mistakes” of the Roman Catholic Church. Should we label America as the Antichrist as well?

Only history will judge the validity of that notion that the papacy is as the antichrist, and that will be long after all of us are dead.

so i guess we won’t know …

ok right now the pope is benedict the 16th or something well the thing is after he dies the next pope is supposed to be pope petreus romanus(after peter the first pope).he will deceive people into believing what he wants them to believe and try and seperate church and people.he will also be known as the false prophet since he will deceive so many people.and I heard that there is supposed to be some guy working with him.in a way the antichrist the other guy and satan are known as the unholy trinity since he(satan)copied God since Him,Jesus, and the Holy spirit are the holy trinity.the antichrist is also said to be of roman descent and right now he’s plotting if you want to say it that way and nobody can kill him.

Answer #4

And could someone also provide me with the verse which mentions that peter was crucified on an upside down cross??

Answer #5

could someone give me some proof that the pope is the successor of PETER?? because im a roman catholic and I no that he is the successor but when people ask how do you know… what am I supposed to say how m I suposed 2 prove that the pope is the successor of peter?

Answer #6

nope, not a descendant —SUCCESSOR is more like it. A “descendant “ makes it sound that popes are from the bloodline of Peter. A “successor” is someone who takes over the job after the old one before him retires or whatever. So for Roman Catholics the pope is the successor of Peter as the bishop of Rome and the vicar of Christ on earth.

Answer #7

Not impossible but very highly unlikely. The antichrist will however be very suave and able to be a master communicator and have global influences so he can perform his satanic deeds.

Answer #8

The anti-christ is anyone who works against the sake of good. Is it good to point fingers at someone who you aren’t even sure you know? How is the Pope anti-christ? Lots of smoke.

Answer #9

If you check online… there are multitudes of antichrists… with new websites coming up often, with someone else being targeted. Its like a “who’s who list”.

Answer #10

Nope, Jesus Christ himself gave authority to Peter as Pope.

“And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16: 17-19

Our current Pope Benedict 16 is just another descendant of Peter.

As for the whole “child molestation” thing- yes its true, this things happen in the Roman Catholic Church (RCC). But it happens more among schools and protestant churches. Why does the spotlight always seems to be on the RCC? That’s what I would like to know too.

God bless!
