why do people treat the pope like a god??? is he really a god or what???
no the pope, even for roman catholics, is never considered a god.
the doctrine of papal infallibility is actually only invoked “ex cathedra” in matters of doctrine and faith, but it does not make the pope “attain” godlike powers.
Like Peter, who was weak and full of sin, the pope has the grace and power not to commit mistakes in acknowledging doctrinal truths that has been revealed to us by God, for it its the Lord Himself who promised that “the gates of Hell shall not prevail” against the Church.
In a world where democracy seems the “greatest” forebearer of truth, that concept of one man having the power to decide on matters that affect us all would be unimaginable, even dictatorial. And yet the Roman Catholic Church, throughout history, have endured upheavals precisely because of the papacy, the stronghold of faith to christianity during the early centuries.
Now that stronghold holds fast, and through the grace of our Lord Jesus, it shall be till the end of the world, whether the members be in the billions or a few thousand. Remember, once upon a time there were only twelve.
To the Catholics, the Pope is revered as infallible. Meaning that he can do no wrong (immune from fallacy or liability to error in expounding matters of faith or morals by virtue of the promise made by Christ to the Church).
You would think ‘apologizing for the Spanish Inquisition’ would’ve ruined that idea. But it didn’t…

The Pope is not a God. But, he is in many ways God’s representative on Earth - he helps guide Roman Catholics as to what God would like of us. He is treated specially because of the fact that he is God’s representative, not because he is a God himself.
