Teddy Bear Puppies

We recently purchased a Teddy Bear Puppy. Will be 3 months old. He is a very hyper little dog. Are the easy to house break and will the nipping stop as he gets older

Answer #1

Ok - to comment on the barking. I thought ours was not a barker either but now at 7 months she barks at everything! I am going to try that spray bottle trick mentioned above. I am having a hard time with the potty training. She is a female, I have read all the books and any information I can find, and have really tried hard and am consistent but she is still having many accidents! I am beginning to wonder if she will ever be trained?

We purchased our “lilly” just a few months ago. she is also a teddy bear (chizon) and she was pretty easy to house break.I was wandering about the barking every one always talks about because she never barks. ok rarely when she hears a dog on a tv commercial but just a little ruff.

All dogs nip when they are small…that’ll stop, make sure you have enough toys lying around for him that if he feels the need to bite, he’ll just pick one of those

the correct name for you pup is Bischon Frise (just for information purposes,so you’ll be able to get information easier on the breed)

Here is some information on the breed:

Character: The Bichon Frise is lively and animated. They adore being part of a family. Their cheerful attitude is a true measure of this breed. They love to play but are not hyperactive. They thrill on constant human interaction. The Bichon Frise is a delightful and amusing companion.

Temperament: The Bichon Frise has an extremely appealing nature. They are highly social and are at their absolute best as full members of a family. They get along very well with other dogs and pets, and are excellent with children. They make good watchdogs and will bark to alert their family to visitors or danger. This breed is inquisitive and energetic, dignified and charming.

Care: The Bichon Frise requires frequent grooming. They are known as a high maintenance breed. Daily brushing is a must, as their coat tends to mat very easily. Professional grooming every four weeks is recommended to keep them looking their very best. They are prone to skin problems, allergies, ear infections, and deafness. Dental hygiene is extremely important to prevent tooth loss. They are sensitive to fleabites. The Bichon Frise is a breed that does not like to be left alone for extended periods of time and will suffer separation anxiety.

Training: The Bichon Frise is an intelligent breed, but they typically are difficult to house train. They are slow to mature and males are generally slightly easier to train than females. Crate training works best for the Bichon Frise. It is important to be consistent and patient. They do well with obedience and agility training beginning at an early age. The Bichon Frise thrives on socialization and loves to perform tricks.

Activity: This breed is able to fulfill their exercise needs by adapting themselves to family activities. However, this is not a breed for a sedentary lifestyle. They enjoy daily walks and play sessions. They are well suited to apartment living provided appropriate exercise is given. The Bichon Frise loves to run and play in a securely fenced yard.

I also have a Teddy Bear puppy (Bichon Frise /Shih Tzu mix)and he was very nippy. In a playful but annoying way. My neighbor suggested getting a spray bottle of water and and spraying him once when he got in one of his moods. It only took once and he stopped nipping. I have also taught him the “Kissy, kissy” command along with it. I have also used it to get him to stop barking at every dog that comes down our sidewalk along with the “Quite” command. It honestly took one day of training.
