Is it a sin to listen to music that contains explicit words and sayings in Christianity?

Answer #1

Yes

Answer #2

I’m doubtful of this. I don’t think hearing swears is a sin, I don’t even recall hearing that swearing in itself is a sin.

Answer #3

That’s a personal choice…as in it’s up to the individual to decide that for themselves…or at least it should be.

Answer #4

Yes. It is. I’m Christian, but I still listen to that type of music.

Answer #5

I had to cut a lot of the music I listened to out. As Christians., God tell’s us- that we cannot serve two masters., But listening to music outside of praise music- Does Not make you any less of a Christian.

Philip. 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

I know I just have to be careful about what songs I listen to. If I hear lyrics that bash God, or make me uncomfortable, I just don’t listen to those songs anymore.

But for me I know that God called me out of it, because for me music made me feel so good in some bad areas, made me want to go party or just drift off into bad thoughts, I started to like christian music as I got closer to the Lord, that is a one on one thing between “you and God,”

{Do Your Research.}

Now keep in mind that “Luicfer was music,” music literally came from him, so if I were you I would seek God. You know right from wrong-As we all do…. And no it’s not a sin….

It’s your choice.. I listen to all music, to remain open-minded. & non- biased.

Answer #6

Answer #12

The christians guys stated they feel the music you listen to influences your behavior with society. You will start acting like if you are the artist or what they are saying on the songs. I got a call from the other guys that one of their friends got into an heated argument rig ht after he was listening to a song on their way to the movies. Hr got arrested for aggrevated assault.

Answer #17

I really think it’s the spirit behind the music, not nessecarily if a song has a certain word in it. For example, if a song makes you feel depressed every time you hear it, it’s probably not good to listen to it all the time. I had a cd I really loved that had no bad words in it, and eventually I had to throw it away because it made me so depressed. God isn’t out to get us, He loves us and wants what’s best for us. If something we listen to keeps us from having a closer relationship with Him, we shouldn’t listen to it.

Answer #18

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers” (Ephesians 4:29)

“put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth” (Colossians 3:8). In the Greek language, the phrase, “filthy communication” means foul speaking, low and obscene speech.

In Colossians 4:6, the apostle Paul tells us to, “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”

Answer #19

I’d like you to understand that you should just by aware of what you’re putting in your mind, whether you can control what you heard or not. I ts those words stirring in your mind that may cause you to think about them more and possibly cause you to talk that way. I hope you can kinda get what I’m saying :)

Answer #20

I Agree, The Bible tells us in Proverbs 4:23 that Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. and also in Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Answer #21

Thank you for providing some bible versus to back me up! What’s that one Romans verse about renewing our minds, and not conforming to the world? I like that one :)
