Peace Corps

So I recently just signed up and I’m hoping to get some information back soon.Has anyone been in the peace corps that could give me some advice?

Answer #1

I haven’t been in the peace corps, but a piece of advice that I think is crucial to you is simply this: keep an open mind.

Best of luck.

Answer #2

A cousin of mine was in the Peace Corps and it was not what she expected at all. She ended up in Kazakhstan, in some mountain village that was very cut off from civilization. She had a LOT of difficulty at first with the locals, not much support from the outside, had hardly any time to contact the family or friends, and her living conditions were pretty miserable.

But, a couple years later, when she came back home she said the experience was very good for her and she did learn a lot.

Lex_icon’s advice is sound, you need to go with an open mind and be ready for anything, including doing your daily business in a lake with everyone else around you watching. I’m not trying to talk you out of it (believe it or not) but just trying to prevent you from total shock. I do highly commend you for signing up, it’s a very noble thing to serve in the Peace Corps, although you will get tremendous benefits from doing it.
