Is it normal for a teacher to develop feelings for a 5 year old student?

Okay, I know it’s not normal. Basically I’m a 16 year old student, and my school offers a program where we teach preschool students. The student I’m in charge of is a 5 year old boy. He’s really sweet and pretty smart. The problem? I think I may have some sort of feelings for him, and I know it’s not normal! I know I’m too old, but the problem is that sometimes I can’t stop thinking about him. I just don’t know what to do and I don’t want to seem like a creep.

Answer #1

depends, are you thinking of him like a sister would think of him? are you wanting to protect him from harm’s way like a sibling? a lover would be creepy to me, specially since he’s WAY too young for that.

Answer #2

I think it’s very normal for teachers and students, caregivers and patients, etc. to bond, to feel connected, but you need to articulate a little more what these feelings are. You say you know you’re too old - too old to play in the sandbox, yes, but what did you mean? When you’re away from him, what do you think about him? Do you wish he was your own child? Do you wish he was 19?

Answer #3

Not if it’s sexual.
