How can I feel happier about going back to school?

I still have about 3 weeks before I go back to school, but I am going to be in year 11, and in my GCSE year. I moved to this school a year ago, and I really don’t like it as much as my old one. I just feel really depressed and scared about all of the exams. I get good grades, it’s just that there is so much pressure and stress and homework. Last year, I was doing about 5-6 hours of homework every night, it was AWFUl! And I wasn’t even doing any exams! I just want my old friends and my old school. I’m just DREADING going back. :( How can I feel happier about going to school? Any ideas?

Maybe you can talk to a counselor, since you did say you have been feeling depressed and stressed out, you really should talk to someone who you are close to about this, because it really seems you are going through a hard time, and 5-6 hours of homework is just too much..

Well, first of all you should accept that you aren’t going back to your old school. Maybe there’s some way you can keep in, or already are keeping in contact with old friends, that’s about that best you can do for that. Take a breather, you’re working really hard by the sounds of it and should be proud of yourself. You did it last year, I’m sure you’ll pull through fine this year. You already said you get good grades. Maybe some support from friends and family will make you feel better about going back?

Oh I remember year 11. Teachers love to make a big deal out of it. It really isnt that bad. The exams arent as bad as they make them seem, you’ll pass, and you’ll be fine. If you’re planning on taking A levels, they’re not even that big a deal. You just need to pass a minimum of classes to get into A levels. A lot of the second semester will be spent studying so you’ll be ready to take the exams. It’s not like you’ll be learning new material at that point so it’s all just about practice. This is how I get through my exams. Many people sit for those exams every year. Most of those people arent particularly brilliant. If they can do it, so can I. Also, nothing in your history has proven otherwise. I know it is stressful. Sitting exams for 2 years worth of material. But trust me, all that homework you are doing will have you well prepared. As for the rest of it. You’re going to have to accept that this is your school. And you can try to make the best of it. Try to make new friends and try to make this a better year. Or you can be miserable. That is your choice.
