Mono messed up my birth control pill

Well, I’m on yaz, and I recently had mono and just got over the symptoms 2 weeks ago. Well I’ve been having breakthrough bleeding now for 10 days and my doctor said it was because when I had mono it messed up my pill like I was never taking it…well iwas planning on having sex in a couple days but now I don’t want to if the pill isnt going to be effective…how long will it take for my cycle to straighten up again? And will I be safe if I still use a condom?

With Mono you are contagious for up to 18 months after your symptoms disappear. If you’re going to be having sex, you need to use condoms and avoid kissing (I’m sorry- that’s so rough!!!)

Once you are done with your placebo pills, and get back on your active pills, I would THINK that your body would go back to the way things were before.

in most cases it takes 7 days for BC to become effective, condoms are historically 98% effective.
