If Jesus Gave His Life...

According to Christian beliefs,Jesus gave his life to erase the world’s sins.So does that mean that everyone can commit sins but it doesnt matter because we’ll all be forgiven anyway?I’m kinda confused here :)

again, a fundamentalist who “picks and chooses” what part of the word of G-d to follow…

Answer #2

No it does not mean that everyone can sin just because they know that they will be forgiven. Everyone sins everyday, all the time. Even when we don’t mean to. But when we do sin, we know that we will be forgiven.

Answer #3

This is one of the many reasons why I am not a Christian.

You are totally right. Why should not we commit as many sins as we want when all of our sins have been washed away in advance?

“Believe in Jesus and you are saved” This is what Christianity says. Now if I believe in Jesus, do I have the green light to do whatever I please? Aren’t I forgiven already?

Do good as well as bad Christians go to Heaven just ‘cause they all believed in Jesus? I call this “unfair”.

I mean I am a muslim and I believe bad muslims should go to hell while good Jews and good Christians should go to Heaven.

some denominations do beilieve that “good deeds won’t get you into heaven”…that only taking Jesus as your Lord and Savior will get that reward. That the serial killer who at the last minute before execution, who comes to Jesus will get there, but the person who spent their entire life helping others, doing good deeds, etc…will not be rewarded UNLESS he also comes to Jesus. That doesn’t seem logical to me…

There are many, many Christian denominations that do NOT feel this way, however…Don’t lump them all into one ball of wax…

I am not aware of any christian denomination that does not subscribe to the belief that you must be a believer in christ to enter heaven. I do know some christians that do not subscribe to this and believe that through “good works” alone you can gain entrance to heaven.

You will never find a satisfactory answer to this question. The books of the New Testament don’t give a clear answer on this; they all have sometimes wildly different views on who Jesus is and what he is/was supposed to do, and on what salvation actually is. There is still disagreement among Christians on the requirements for salvation after 2000 years.

Answer #7

This question shows the misunderstanding the questioner and many others have on this topic. I will try to remove this misunderstanding.

First of all saying that Jesus dies to erase the sins of the world is like saying an ATM machine provides money to all. While the purpose of the machine is to disburse cash it does not provide money to anyone who walks in.

Jesus died on the cross to erase our sins but that does not mean that everyone will have their sins erased by Jesus. For that we need to do certain things. We need to accept Jesus as our savior. Then we repent of our sins and ask him to forgive our sins and then our sins are erased. So the death of Jesus is a provision which we can use to erase our sins and all of us are not automatically forgiven just because He died for us.

When we accept Jesus into us there is a change that comes about slowly. The Holy Spirit begins to dwell in us and we begin to understand God and get closer to Him. Then we will know the badness of sin and will make all sincere efforts to refrain from it. We don’t immediately become immune to sin but will start to fight against it and might in the midst sometimes fall prey to it. The result will be that one who accepts Jesus starts to dislike sin and is pained when he falls to temptations. Forgiveness of sins does not make a person free to sin again instead will make him one who fight the sin in him.

Some people don’t understand how it would be logical for a person who does good things his entire life to be landing up in Hell. Actually it is quite simple.

A person with sin cannot enter Heaven. A person who does good deeds his entire life also commits sins. Unfortunately good deeds does not wipe away sins only Jesus can do that.

In fact it is only the way we look at it that makes it seem illogical. Imagine that we are looking at it from God’s point of view. “I made provision for world to wipe out their sins and come to me. Now a serial killer kills his entire life and in the last moment repents and wishes to utilize the provision of wiping out the sins from him should I not wipe his sins? After all that is what I gave my life for. Now here is person who does good deeds his entire life. I appreciate that and would love to have him in Heaven but he has been stubborn and has rejected me his entire life and never utilized the provision I made for him to escape Hell. Won’t he then land up there?”

“I am not aware of any christian denomination that does not subscribe to the belief that you must be a believer in christ to enter heaven.”

Utoipa, My wife taught catechism up till a few years ago. The last year she taught she was at a teacher orientation prior to the new year beginning, and they were instructed that they were to start teaching that christianity is not the only way into heaven. That good deeds were just as important. Not that she ever thought that belief was necessary to be saved, she was still very surprised and pleased with the change. I think with a lot of interfaith marriages, it was probably becoming an issue having to tell a kid that one of their parents was going to hell.

Eternallymisinformed said: “A person who does good deeds his entire life also commits sins.”

But what if he doesn’t ever commit one sin? According to christian dogma, he still can’t get in.

I really don’t understand why anyone would believe a “loving” god would be so vain and cruel as to cast perfectly good people into hell for simply not believing in something as unknowable as a diety. Sound like one mean SOB to me.

Answer #10

God tells us in his book that any action or though that corrupts our body and spirit is a sin. To further explain to us what are actions and thoughts corrupts our us the Law was given to us. Violation of those laws are sinful. A study of the laws will show that it is not possible for a man to live without committing a sin. Sin is inevitable. The only way is to clean all the corruption that has already happened and prevent further corruption from happening is through accepting Jesus in to our lives. Only he can do that for us.

“God tells us in his book”

God’s book also tells you to kill adulterers and homosexuals. Not the best source for morals…
