I want a parrot

What some tips on parrots

Answer #1

Read up on cooking with teflon and anodized coated pans. I believe they can be deadly toward pets, especially birds. Also, watch out for stress bites on their feathers. They indicate something is wrong, either boredom or illness.

They demand a lot of attention and are like little kids… It’s also a lot of working cleaning cages and what not, they’re horribly fussy and messy eaters too, you need to change their food a couple of times a day, if there’s junk on top of their food (from the mess they made) they wont eat anything touching it… it’s a lot of work to get a parrot, you need to be sure you have the time and patience, they can live over 50 years (average is around 30 years), so this is a life long commitment…

Answer #3

They can bite (really hard), they are noisy and loud, they seek your attention most of the time and if you let them fly free around the house they will poop everywhere. But they are beautiful, intelligent, and if trained well, make great pets.

Here are some pros and cons of owning a parrot (it’s written with humor) :):

I know they’re really loud… I don’t know anymore about them.

I myself am a parrot enthusist. They can have the intellegence of a 5 year old and the emotional capacity of a two year old. Can learn up to six different languages and keep them all separate. They can be loud and Erudite is right, there are a lot of household items to be concerned about. The biggest problem is as I have said they have the emotional capacity of a two year old so they require a lot of attention or they will become depressed and self mutilate themselves. My African grey has over a 200 word vocabulary, recognizes bed time and morning time. Also has proper etiquette, says bless you after you sneeze hello when someone picks up the phone even said Vote for MerCain a few times (he cant pronounce McCain) If you have any questions feel free to send me a fun mail.

We have 5 parrots.

Most important thing is that different parrots have different personalities and are very intelligent birds that need a lot of attention and time to keep happy.

Here are some advice on one or two general parrots that I know of.

African Grey. They are parrots that don’t like a lot of people and tend to take to one person very easily. They are great speakers, and are about as clever as a 2 year old child, so you can really teach them a lot of great things. Also remember that if you are maybe in school a lot or not at home often your african grey might not take to you so well. They will take to the person giving them the most attention usually

Cockatoo’s Great family parrots. They take to almost everyone if they are well cared for and don’t bite as often in general as African Greys. So if you have to go on holiday it will be a lot easier for people taking care of them etc. They can also speak and are very intelligent.

Those are the two almost most well known. We’ve had quite a vaiety of birds so if you need to know anything funmail me.

Also theirserpents advice is very helpful.
