How to tell my parents I want to join the marines after high school

Yes, I am a female. I have had the desire and passion to enlist for a while now. I have looked into it and know what I need to know about enlisting and serving and I am sure that it is what I want. How do I tell my parents that their little girl wants to be a marine?

rgreen seems like she has some good advice for you. honestly I’m not EVER gonna join the marines, or any other United States military regiment. Couldn’t even if I wanted to. But, I am going to be serving my country in a military manner, just my country, Canada. 2 years and I’m joining a field engineers regiment. I know in the end your parents will be very proud of you no matter how much they try and get you to find a safer career. Good Luck

well good for you! im an army brat myself. I grew up surrounded but all things military, even did a few years of ROTC in high school. I think its great you would want to join the marines. im a parent now, and I know how I would react if my son told me he wanted to join. honestly, I would be furious at first. its by far one of the most dangerous jobs you can get. but after I calmed down and thought about it for a while, I think I would be very proud to have a child who wants to serve our country. the most important thing is that when you tell them, be prepared. theyre going to have a lot of questions for you. have a plan. speak to a recruiter, even pick them up some brochures. let them know how passionate you are about it, and im sure theyll be very proud.

leave them a note that says I am pregnant and ran off with my boyfriend (and name some who is junky or something that they know)

and write way down write am just kidding I want to join the army that’s how I do things

Answer #4

give your parents a little scare and then tell them all about the marines and tell them why you want to join because they will listen better when they are scared!!! (P.S. dont give them a heart attack) (if that happens im not responsible) oo and by the way Semper Fidelis (hoooraaah)

I had the same exact problem at one point, finally one night at dinner I said, “Mom i need to talk to you about something…. I want to join the Marine Corps” now she at firts was totally shocked and was speechless. She asked why and I told her exactly why I wanted too. It took awhile for it to sink in but she finally told me that if joining the Marines was really what iI wanted to do with my life, then she would support me 100%. I still have a little less than 2 years before I can enlist but I am looking forward to the day that i do. Hope this helps.

                                 Sincerely,
                                                - A Future Jarhead
