How much should he weigh?

I have a 7 year old little boy who weighs 220 pound I ave been battling his weight for years and am looking for ways and ideas to help him get this weight off. He is very active and doesn’t eart a lot of junk food. I have even started buying organic and stop buying junk food. What would be a normal weight target for him, his age says about 54 pounds. This doesn’t seem realistic to me for him.

Dear concernedmother, Unless he has a thyroid problem then what is making him this size is the amount and type of food he is eating. I have hoped you have taken him to the doctors by now. If you haven’t you must do in ASAP. He could be suffering from thyroid problems or the onset of diabetes due to his weight. Organic food does not mean low fat…You must learn what a serving size is for a 7 year old as well as fat content in the foods you are feeding him. You may be surprised just how much he is over eating. Your doctor can set you up with a dietitian to help out here. The internet has a lot of great info on serving sizes as well. Sometimes you may feel it is easier to give in to your child when he says he’s hungry. But if he is eating 3 meals and a healthy snack in between then he isn’t hungry just bored and in a habit. It’s time to be a parent and if he has no medical condition then say no. Sue…good luck

Eliminating ALL junk food is a good idea until he is at the normal weight, if you are trying different ways to get him to a healthy weight and they are not working, take him to a physician.

Dear concerned mother: I have a 7 year old brother and he only weighs 55 pounds but he is a bit skinny. An avarage 7 year old should weigh no more then 70 pounds. You should take him to the doctor to get a chelestoryl test (blood test). That weigh you will find out by the doctor how to feed him. I would definately lay off the junk food and when he asks for ice cream or something like that say no how about an apple. And putting apple on ice cream does not make it healthy. You should also take him to a therapist because once he hits grade 4 or 5 people will start to make fun of him. DON’T WORRY THE DOCTOR CAN GIVE YOU SOME BETTER TIPS. I THINK THAT IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO…

when I was 12 I was 160 pounds. It wasnt because I ate junk food or didnt play sports but simply because I overate on healthy foods. If he eats a healthy lunch than comes home and eats like 4 apples thats not helping.

Answer #5

sounds like someone overfeeds their children…

Answer #6

If he is active and not eating a lot of processed junk then you may want to have him checked for Cushing syndrome. Please do research it ad it is very rare but can be very serious.
