How do you teach an old dog not to poop in the house?

How to teach an old dog not to deficate in the house? He is 18 years old. He does it when I’m gone and immediately after I get home.

You must keep in mind that your dog is roughly 126 years old in dog years so please be kind and understanding in your treatment of your pet. It’s amazing that he’s reached this age at all. 7 years to our 1 year.

If you’ve had him all these years, I would think you’d know more about the life cycle of dogs. Their little bodies go through the same aging and breakdown process that ours do only at a much faster rate. Please treat him with the same respect and understanding that you hope to receive when you reach that age! If he’s been house broken all these years, I’m sure he’s as upset about the “accidents” as you are.

have the puppy training pads or newspaper somewhere in the house that he could go for if youre not at home and then it will be easier to clean up

You can’t…HE can’t help it…he’s most likely semi senile, mostly blind and deaf…If you’ve had him this long, and have loved him…then forgive him, clean it up…and go on about your business…You probably won’t have to worry about much longer.

A dog at 18 years old is probably losing control to the muscle to hold the bowel movement in. When your gone the bowel movement is because he can’t hold it. When you get home its due to him being excited and not being able to hold it. He gave you 18 good years now its your turn to keep him happy.
