How many times a day should my 1 1/2 year old chihuahua poop?

How many times a day should my chihuahua poop? She is 1 1/2 years old and crate trained. I feed her once in the morning. She always goes pee and poop first thing in the morning after waking up and then the rest of the day is hit or miss. We always praise her greatly when she does both and give her time to play in the house when she pees AND poops, so she gets that as a reward for doing both. She always pees when I take her out, but the pooping thing is driving me nuts. Of course, she wants to look at every blade of grass, bug and bird that fly by. I take her out in the same place everytime, but most of the time after peeing, she looks up at me as if to say, ‘what am I still doing out here?’ I generally take her outside to go about every three hours unless she is whining, then I take her out in between. I just don’t know if I should expect her to go poop everytime or every other time. Once a day, twice a day. I don’t want her to pee and then she is done and then she comes in and poops on the carpet. Thanks for your advice.

Signed, Pooped out waiting for the poop

Answer #1

first of all what goes in will come out, you are only feeding her once a day, now back to the once a day feeding, she needs to have more small meals through out the day, she should atleast have two. how would you like to eat once a day? this is a very small breed and there body can crash fast. Please talk to your vet about this breed and how much and how often she should be eating. Most dog foods will have a chart right on the bag based on the dogs weight and age.

Answer #2

Once a day is normal.
