How can I introduce a female small puppy to an adult male cat?

How can I introduce a small female puppy to an adult male cat? The male cat is a siamese tabby, and is kind of strange/aggressive when meeting new humans, so I don’t know how he will react to a puppy.

Answer #1

Put one or the other in a wire crate, so they can become aquainted thru the bars (you’ll need a crate anyway, to help housetrain…so let the pup sleep in the crate in a room where the cat is), they can desensitize to one another…The cat is perfectly capable of hurting a small, pup…so it’s your obligation to protect that pup from the cat.

Try having the pup in a seperate room for a while, somewhere the cat can’t get to. When the dog’s settled in, carry it out of the room and to where your cat is. Let the cat watch the pup and realise that it’s actually your friend. Keep doing this sort of thing and eventually let the cat get near the puppy, or have the pup in a pet carrier of some sort where the cat can check it out properly. If the cat shows no signs of aggresion, then things should be fine. Remember, patience is the key! Hope this helped, AnimalInsanity x
