Introducing 1 Year old Male to Adult Female

We have a very tame young adult cat who has just turned 1 year old, but his brother was hit by a car just before christmas and he has never seemed to get over it. A friend needs their 10 year old female cat re-homeing due to emigrating soon, both cats are hissing and growling which I expected and they are staying out of the way of each other. My cat was or still is, being bullied by the cats outside due to us moving house 2 months ago and now he feels intimidated in his own home, and has resorted to staying outside more, he is usually a house cat, the female has took to her new home, we haven’t forced them to like one another, but we are worried he may not come home one day. What is the best option?

Oh, poor kitty! Boy kitties are so sweet. Girls can be cold. I really feel for your cat. I have 3 and they all hate each other after years. They still avoid one another. 2 girls, and the boy is actually semi-lame, plus blind and he’s still the bully.

The best I’ve been able to do is to make sure they all have at least one spot in the house that is their own. They all sit around here and there, but each has a place that the others never use.

I’ve been able to kinda train my cats by giving them verbal signals before squirting them with a water-gun or spray bottle. Now if I hear them messing around, I hiss and they usually stop. Other times, I’ll take my slipper off and they all scatter.

Once in a blue, if one of them is really acting up and its causing havoc, I have to shut the culprit in the bathroom for a while. They hate that, even though they like hanging out in there with the door open.

You gotta make sure to accommodate your baby boy. Feed him first always. Make him feel like the alpha kitty, or at least the beta to your alpha. If you can, pet him more - the social grooming. That’s good reinforcement. If you have to, feed them in separate rooms and make sure your boy can relax while he eats. Actually, make sure they get plenty of food too because a little hunger can make a cat act totally ridiculous.

There may be hope for your cats. Time and age may cure this. Its always hard introducing adult cats.

Are they both fixed? That’s very, very important for temperament and health, regardless of their relationship.

My heart is bleeding for your boy cat. I’m sending him vibes. Good luck and kudos for taking in the orphan. That’s how I got all my little monsters.
