God is in Us

My mother always says to me “ God lives in you, therefore, by putting yourself first your putting god first” is that true?

Answer #1

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you” (John 15:12-14).

“Do nothing from selfishness or conceit, but in humility, count others better than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which was in Christ Jesus who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross” (Phillipians 2:3-8).

“Jesus told his disciples, ‘If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it” (Matthew 16:24-25).

Answer #2

Sometimes the “God lives in you”, is said as a general statement of fact, however, the bible says that God has to be invited to live within us, it is not automatic. Nor, are we “all Gods children”, without repentance (meaning that we have seen that our ways are not according to Gods will, and we have chosen to turn from them,”

You are the only one, that knows what your relationship is to God. You know in your heart, if you have truly invited him into your heart, or not. You know if you are seeking to live for him, no one else can make this call, but, you and God. Since salvation is a very personal thing for everyone.

Having God in us, does not mean that we will be perfect, it just means that we sincerely believe that God is real, have reached out to him, for the gift of salvation that he offers, and are trying to live for him.

However, the putting oneself first, thing, I really don’t understand, perhaps you could elaborate on that.

Answer #3

Not necessarily. Her implication is that God is in everyone. Therefore, if you put others first wouldn’t you also be putting God first?

Answer #4

yes, up there, that is true, we do not want to be selfish, but we must take care of our body because the bible says we must treat our body as the temple of the Lord. we must think of others first before ourselves, but that doesnt mean letting ourselves go, neccessarily. any more Qs? go to lifespace.cc and set up a profile and add me as your friend my names alexis.

Answer #5

I kinda feel like your mother may be using religion to justify selfish behavior. That’s really not acceptable.

Silverwings or Amblessed, help me out–doesn’t it say somewhere in the Bible that he who is last on Earth will be first in Heaven?

I’m pretty sure it does, and even if it doesn’t, Jesus always encouraged unselfish behavior.

Answer #6

I guess. but by putting god first you have to be good and not do any of the 7 sins!!

Answer #7

It depends on how you look at it, but in my opinion yes.

Answer #8

Well, I think your mother forgot the part about God living in everyone else as well. If it is one or the other person must be physically hurt, then you should always take that onto yourself. In mental endeavors and relationships with others though you should always be equal. Never put another person over yourself or you over the other person. Do whatever will cause the least amount of pain for the both of you combined. Good luck, Brian D.

Answer #9

The bible says you’re supposed to put God first, then others, then yourself.

Answer #12

Answer #13
