Geniusness, Intelligence and Autism

Just want to ask your opinion about these three. I have read a lot of article regarding some of the world’s greatest geniuses affected by this disorder (the likes of Einstein, Newton, etc…)

Answer #1

Even though the jury is still out on Einstein and Newton (hard to diagnose someone after the fact) there are plenty of people who make the news headlines also today - if only briefly - preisely because they have focused so intensively on one particular field. Mathematics in particular, but also music and art, to mention a few I’ve heard of recently.

I think it’s as lostsoul points out: they concentrate EVERYTHING in one particular area, and ignore the rest of life. And the results can be amazing.

Answer #2

yes, people with autism like to stick to one thing, they focus all there energy and atention on this one thing / hobby / whichever and pretty much MASTER it… once they master one thing they get bored and do another, there brain never turns off, its just pretty much getting them to pay “attention” to things they need to be learning in school or life that throws them off, they DO NOT like to be told what / how to do something, give them a shoe and they will figure out how to tie it themselves, if you try and jump in to show them they will get frustrated and cry/throw a fit/ what not… very odd yes, but its how they work
